About The Artist

Enjoy the unique artistic style of Valerie Thorpe. Inspired by landscapes and natural forms, Val is a Surrey-based artist specializing in watercolour, acrylic, or mixed media. Her work focuses on capturing pattern, colour, and texture, emphasising abstract qualities through contrast, bold colours, and expressive lighting. Val draws inspiration from diverse sources, including Cézanne's use of volume, Bonnard's vibrant interiors, Rousseau, Turner, and illustrations from 1960s Look and Learn magazines.

 

Open to commissions, Val welcomes the challenge of working to a specific brief. Her background in graphic design and extensive experience teaching art and photography enhance her ability to understand and execute client needs. Actively involved in her community, Val is a member of the Woking and Guildford Art Societies and regularly exhibits at the Lightbox Woking and The Barn, West Horsley. Her artwork is also featured alongside other West Surrey artists and on the Surrey Artists website.
